We're short of staff.       人手不够。
I'm short on time.          时间不够。
Two dollars short.          还差两块。

short of / short on —— 中文的"缺 / 差"精确对应。

"far from" —— 远远不到

I'm far from done.          还差得远。
Far from perfect.           远远不完美。

中文"差远了"就是 far from 一句话。
